Vollrad Kutscher

* 1945 Braunschweig, Germany

The artist and Frankfurt am Main resident is primarily concerned with the genre portrait. Influenced by the avant-garde movement of the 1960s, his artistic vocabulary includes photography, photogram, light and video projection, sculpture, sound installation, film and performance. Kutscher's portraits are accessible light installations. In his light portraits ("luminous role models"), he uses the ancient technique of anamorphosis (developed by Leonardo da Vinci), of playing with perspective and distortion. Kutscher launched the "Society for the exploitation and preservation of the idea of the Pfennig AG" project in 1970 and has revived it with actions and performances – since 2002 using its own patented currency, the EUROPAN ("The Pfennig is dead - long live the EUROPAN!").
