In 1999 Ottmar Hörl was invited by DeTeMedien (Deutsche Telekom Medien) to design a telephone card. Introduced in 1990, the card had just reached the 500 million mark and its end was foreseeable due to the spread of mobile phones. Hörl made a virtue of the situation and turned the phone card into a talisman. He answered the question of what everyone could use by writing “Glück” (luck) on it and recommended his card with the 6 DM credit chip “for the telephone transmission of pleasant news and congratulations”. Hörl's “Glück” card was published in conjunction with an anthology on the subject of luck and in business card cases such as the miniature aluminium suitcase. DeTeMedien art edition was distributed at Art Frankfurt 1999 and subsequently through museum shops.
